Role: Chief Marketing Officer

World Chess is seeking a digitally-driven, results-oriented Chief Marketing Officer to lead our global marketing organisation and drive measurable growth at the intersection of chess, media, and culture.

This is a unique opportunity for a marketing leader who combines strategic vision with hands-on expertise in performance and digital growth. You will own the full marketing function — from user acquisition and funnel optimisation to brand building and community growth — while working closely with the CEO and executive team to align marketing with overall business goals.

We’re looking for someone who can architect and execute a growth-first strategy: setting direction, building processes, running high-impact campaigns, and progressively developing a high-performing team as the company scales.

Strategic & Operational Responsibilities

Digital Growth & Acquisition

  • Own and scale user acquisition across mobile and web products, driving installs, registrations, and monetisation.

  • Launch, manage, and optimise campaigns on Meta, Google UAC, TikTok, Apple Search Ads, and other channels.

  • Build and refine growth funnels (CPI → Retention → LTV → ROAS), improving metrics at every stage.

  • Oversee ASO, SEO, retargeting, email marketing, and paid traffic to maximise ROI.

Performance & Analytics

  • Set and track KPIs including CPI, ROAS, retention rates, and LTV.

  • Implement and maintain analytics infrastructure (e.g., Adjust / AppsFlyer, Firebase, Amplitude, GA4).

  • Run structured A/B tests, creative iterations, and funnel experiments to optimise performance.

  • Use data-driven insights to balance performance marketing goals with long-term brand equity.

Brand & Community

  • Develop a distinct brand positioning and messaging strategy that resonates globally.

  • Translate cultural and gaming trends into authentic campaigns and partnerships.

  • Drive content strategies that engage our community and support retention.

Leadership & Team Building

  • Start with hands-on campaign management and gradually build a high-performing marketing team.

  • Create scalable marketing processes, tools, and reporting systems.

  • Foster collaboration across creative, performance, and product functions.

  • Partner with other executives to align marketing priorities with company objectives.

Experience & Skills

  • 6–8+ years in marketing leadership roles with a proven track record in digital/performance marketing, ideally in mobile apps, gaming, or consumer tech.

  • Strong hands-on skills in running and optimising paid campaigns across major platforms.

  • Expertise in funnel building, retention strategies, and monetisation optimisation.

  • Advanced understanding of analytics, attribution, and marketing automation tools.

  • Ability to start lean, operate in resource-conscious environments, and scale strategically.
